Dear Folks,
This week’s city news:
Funk is seeking your help with the naming of the live, call-in Television talk show that is to air either on channel 2 or on KCPT. The show will be similar to the town hall meetings with Funk addressing the viewers first and then taking questions. He’s looking for a snappy title that also offers the viewer a hint as to the type of a show that it is. Some of the names that have been thrown around are: Talk To Me, Funk; Live From Funky-Town; and, Live, In A City That Works. We are still seeking funding for the show, but we’re trying to get everything good-to-go while we’re waiting.
Since the campaign ended, we have received numerous offers from people wanting to stay involved by volunteering for the Mayor. Until now, we’ve been too busy getting our land legs under us to be able to focus on these generous offers, but now that Funk is in the groove, we can turn our attention to this wonderful potential. There is a small group of volunteers that served tirelessly during Funk’s campaign and have offered to organize this new band of volunteers for the Mayor’s office. While no formal plans have been made as of yet, we did want you to know that Funk is very interested in the concept and feels that it will be extremely useful as there is certainly more work to do than he has paid staff to accomplish. If you are interested in volunteering, please email your name, home address, email address, phone number and how you would like to volunteer, to: funksfrontporch@gmail.com. Since we are just now beginning this process, please understand that it might take a few weeks for someone to contact you.
On a more personal note:
Funk’s first Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony went off without a hitch, except for the frigid weather. Funk had time to make a small number of changes to this year’s event in order to personalize it. Most notable was that he had his signature band, Daniel Slick Ballinger, come to play for the event. He also had Jaisson Taylor and his students from the University Academy playing on the African Drums. As usual, the crowd loved both Daniel and Jaisson. We are looking forward to turning next year’s event into a wonderful winter festival and in finding more creative ways to raise money so that everyone in our city, especially our children, can partake in holiday festivities. A special thanks goes to Crown Center, as they are the ones that take on all the costs and the preparation for the actual tree.
In faith,
Gloria & Mark
