Kendrick Blackwood
Assistant Director of Communications
My job is to help Joe help Mark communicate. I do some writing, some listening and make sure the commas are in the right place with most press releases and speeches. I am trying to ride herd over this very site, so if you’ve got an idea, see a typo or find yourself disgusted with some piece of this, let me know at kendrick_blackwood@kcmo.org.
I’m a Kansas City native who started as a journalist at a series of daily papers, writing wedding announcements for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I then wrote news and features for the Wichita Falls Times-Record News, The Omaha World Herald and the Lawrence Journal-World. When I thought it was time for something completely different, I took a feature-writing job at The Pitch, where I worked for five years. I then spent a little more than a year as a stay-at-home dad/home renovator before Joe and Mark called during the campaign.
My first day on the 29th floor was my father George Blackwood’s last day as City Councilman. I asked him not to trash the place on his way out, and I am pleased to report that on my entry all the letters of my computer keyboard were in their rightful places and the walls of City Hall were graffiti free.
Since taking the job, the work I’m doing on my Brookside home has slowed considerably, but I still dote on my now 3-year-old son Cameron and my beautiful wife Krista. I also serve on the board of Krista’s wonderfully good vocal ensemble Octarium.
